Electronic Locking Rear Differential
To help you negotiate uncertain terrain, 4Runner's available electronically controlled locking rear differential distributes engine power evenly to both rear wheels. Hence, they move at the same speed, even if one is off the ground. It is designed to help you maintain a controlled pace over obstacles.
Multi-Terrain Select
When you're in the thick of it, you can activate 4Runner's available Multi-Terrain Select (MTS) system for optimized traction. Just choose from four terrain modes, and this system helps regulate the wheelspin by automatically adjusting the engine throttle and traction control.

What about the 4Runners safety features?
